I led a three-person solutions consulting team that provided pre-sales support to country sales teams and partners worldwide. I covered the Americas, and my two consultants covered Europe and APAC.
We didn’t spread ourselves evenly. We sorted every country as proactive, reactive, or no support needed. A country became proactive only when its management bought in, because we could only help teams that wanted help. Then we looked at its markets: some countries had strong multinational food or pharmaceutical industries, while others served mostly local brands that didn’t export. That market analysis showed us where we had the best chance to win.
In proactive countries, we helped the local team choose target accounts and plan how to win them. In reactive countries, we stepped in when a project lead came up and joined regular reviews. When we were brought into a deal, we converted about half of them into orders.
How much would you pay for a bottle of water?

Then the playbook: find the real pain, map the process, price the value.
A bottle of water in a desert is worth more than the same bottle in a city.
- 1
Find the real pain.
Discover the customer’s primary pain points first, because that’s what lets you solve their problem.
- 2
Map the process.
Identify the application area, document each pain point, and solve each one with products and services.
- 3
Price the value, not the item.
A bottle of water in a desert is worth more than the same bottle in a city.

“Andy and I have worked in the same team for over three years. He has always brought his best self to a meeting, which made it fun and focused. I relied on his experience and technical skills -more than once- when I needed to prepare customer presentations. I know he would always find the way to make himself available if I reached out. I have exposure to several market organizations; all of them are positive about Andy’s treatment, highlighting that he had been instrumental in closing a deal with a customer, as well as being able to translate our products and services into solutions.”
